Fall 2016

Inspiration flows between visual arts and music.  Whether through an auditory experience of a musical performance or a visual encounter with a painting or sculpture, personal reactions to artistic expressions of others often move artists and musicians to create their own interpretations of what they see, hear, or feel.
The Treasure Coast Youth Symphony’s spring program focuses on major orchestral compositions directly inspired by individual artworks or art forms.  The impressionistic style of small but visible art strokes, sometimes dots, to create changes in light in texture becomes audible in Debussy’s Fetes from The Three Nocturnes.  Three Botticelli paintings in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence were effectively described by Respighi in his chamber orchestra composition, Trittico Botticelliano.  Mussorgsky’s Pictures At An Exhibition, originally scored for piano, was a tribute to the artwork of his dear friend, Viktor Hartmann and was later arranged by Maurice Ravel into an epic rendition for large orchestra.  The evening’s concert also includes the Haydn Cell0 Concerto featuring soloist, Erick Lora, our 2017 TCYS Concerto Competition Winner.
The musicians of the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony invite you to join them for this performance paying homage to these great artists whose classic works persistently tender emotional and intellectual inspiration to their audiences.  Come, and be inspired!

In a sequel to last year’s sell-out concert, South Florida’s popular Beatles tribute band, MCCARTNEY MANIA, and the Academy Orchestra come together again for their symphonic/rock extravaganza dedicated to the music and legacy of the Beatles.  This highly popular show includes many great hits like Penny Lane, She’s Leaving Home, I Am The Walrus, Here, There, Everywhere, A Day In A Life, Drive My Car, When I’m Sixty-Four, and even post Beatles McCartney favorites like Live And Let Die. Arrangements and orchestration for this collaboration are by Thomas Servinsky, the Academy Orchestra’s very creative conductor.

What is classical music?  Music that expresses life, truth, beauty, reveals facets of the human condition, inspires emotional responses, and continues to be relevant by becoming part of the history of ideas is classic or “classical” music.  In a sense, its persistent relevance makes it quite contemporary.
This program by the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony highlights and explores important and well-loved pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Berlioz.  Looking back into history and lists of composers in terms of importance, most musicologists agree that Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms were the most influential composers of all time. Perhaps Mozart, Schubert and many others should be in the mix, but these three are the ones whose vision changed the musical style of their day and moved the development of music further to where we are today.  For our concert, because the last composer of the three, Brahms, is usually considered in a tie with French composer, Hector Berlioz, we include him within our catch phrase, The Musical Art of the Three Bs Plus One.
